I regret I missed seeing you all in Minneapolis. Not only was I hoping to see you at the meeting, I was planning on visiting the seminary from which I graduated in 1971. Oh, my heaven. 2017 ANNUAL MEETING
The 2017 Annual Meeting will be held October 17 – 19, 2017 at the Hotel Murano in Tacoma, WA. The announcement and registration will be sent to all of you in late June. Look for an email with a link to on-line registration.
The Council and Certification Committee meet October 15-17. Other Committees may meet at the call of the Chair. However, Peer Review, Finance and RANC will not meet as their work in the new ACPE model is concluded. The Hotel Murano is a smaller, “boutique” hotel. Each floor is dedicated to a local artist with significant displays of the persons work. It is central to downtown Tacoma and approximately five blocks from our CPE Centers there.
The program is being planned by Chairperson Art Schmidt and a hard working Pacific Northwest committee. Events will include a program dealing with “Transitions” (our changing Association and the emotions it produces), workshops on supervision, a Symposium alumni/ae reunion, a reception for all Members and Guests at the Museum of Glass (home of Chihuly the world famous glass artist) and a fancy dress dinner. We are going to celebrate 50 years of serving students, patients and institutions in the western USA. Get out your best dress gear (tuxedos, gowns, highland gear, dress up western wear, aloha evening wear, cowboy boots, heels and whatever makes you happy and look good) and come to celebrate our community. It will be a grand party and time to recognize all we’ve accomplished together. There will be an updated history and video presentation of times gone by. Don’t miss it.
Besides the meeting there will also be options to see and experience the Pacific Northwest. Tacoma is an hour drive from Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens. There are four national parks in the State. Seattle is 40 miles away. For those who want a spectacular day trip, there is a fast ferry to Victoria, BC, Canada – a bit of “jolly old England” in North America. There are also many sites in the Tacoma area to experience as well – Point Defiance Park, Brown & Haley Candy (makers of Almond Roca), the car museum, the Tacoma Art Museum (one of the largest western art exhibits in the world), the wine country and brew pubs galore.
The Committee is preparing information to assist you in planning your trip. Registration materials, hotel booking information and holiday possibilities will be coming to you soon.
Anke Flohr will have details about the 2018 Annual Meeting in Hawaii. It’s going to be good.
2018 will be the beginning of the new structure for ACPE. All meetings, financial matters, budget approvals and administrative procedures will be arranged by and/or approved by the national ACPE office. However several activities must continue to happen such as Certification and Accreditation. While the general structure of these activities has been outlined, the specific policies and practices have not yet been announced. As such, certification in particular has been scheduled so that those in the supervisory education process will know when that meeting is scheduled. The Symposium and Annual Meeting have already been set and will follow our historical practices for now. There will be regular updates provided in this News about meetings and scheduling that impacts Centers and Supervisors. If you have specific questions, please refer them to the committee chairperson or the Regional Office.

PICTURES & STORIES FOR REGIONAL HISTORY
Chaplain Stina Miller is preparing an updated history of the Region and needs your help. She is looking for pictures, Center histories (10 year reviews or other renderings) and CPE stories for a presentation she is putting together for our Annual Meeting is Tacoma. We will celebrate 50 years of history as a Region. It will be a time when we say goodbye to Regions as we know them and look to a new structural future. Please send anything you can to Stina at email@example.com. She would appreciate getting the materials by June so the presentation can be done for the meeting.
EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS TO POST
The Education Committee has worked long and hard to build educational resources for our members. We have just completed the 5th Symposium on Supervision with 20 plus participants from two Regions. From that meeting, materials were gathered to post on the new Regional webpage. More materials about spiritual care and education are welcome. The review group will gladly receive bibliographies, short articles, didactic presentations or other materials useful to a CPE Supervisor or spiritual care provider. Send your offerings or ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org . The “curators” will be in contact with you.

Application for Partial Scholarship to Attend CPE-Related Educational Events
Given the ACPE Pacific Region Development Committee’s mission to support the development and growth of CPE centers and programs throughout the region, the Committee offers a limited number of partial scholarships, to support attendance at conferences or similar educational opportunities directly related to the education and formation of CPE Residents, and CPE Supervisory Education Students, Candidates and Associates in the Region. To that end, we offer partial scholarships to assist in covering costs related to:
– Regional Meeting or Symposium Registrations (if not provided by Center)
– REM Invitational Gatherings
– Faith group conferences or gatherings or other educational conferences
– Regional (Community of Practice) Gatherings
Please provide the following information and send it to the Development Committee chairperson; once we receive your application, we will respond to your request within 60 days of receipt and will consider applications on a rolling basis. If you have already received a scholarship from the Development Committee previously, your application will not be considered, in order to maximize opportunities for access to these scholarships.

1) You will receive half of the awarded amount in advance of the event you attend, and the other half afterward. If, for some reason, you do not attend the event, you must return the scholarship. You will be required to submit receipts to total the amount of the scholarship.
2) Within two weeks of returning from the event, you will write a reflection about your experience, which will be shared with the Pacific Region membership via the web-page and/or newsletter.

To keep us informed about the life and activities of what has been the Pacific Region, we will keep sending this News at least quarterly. We gladly welcome information you would like posted that serves the well-being of our Members. Use the general email address through 2017.
The Regional Council with the assistance of Rod Seeger and a working committee are looking at options to become a Pacific Community of Practice. There will be announcements periodically and an opportunity for you all to choose to join the new place of connection. It is where we will continued to development of our craft, build professional relationships, recruit students, create new programs and
support colleagues. Regional Chairperson Sat Kartar Khalsa-Ramey will send a report as soon as it is fully compiled. Watch for it here.
If you have openings for CPE Supervisors, Spiritual Care Providers or CPE Residents/Interns, we will gladly post them in this news report. We will also endeavor to share the postings with other Regions that may publish the openings as well. We are aware that there are two or three CPE Supervisor positions that will be, but are not yet posted by the employing institution. These will be shared once we have information directly from that Center. Also, there are two or three current CPE Residents who are interested in Supervisory CPE. They are given the Center Comparison Chart and encouraged to contact CPE Supervisors directly. However, if you have a SES opening and would like the names of the persons who have contacted the Regional Office, we will gladly send them to you.

Position Summary The incumbent assists in overseeing the YRMC Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program and works with CPE Residents to minister to the spiritual needs of patients, families, staff and other individuals. The incumbent reports to and collaborates with the Director of Spiritual Care and Patient Advocacy regarding any issues that arise in spiritual care or in the CPE program. The incumbent provides clinical supervision in accordance with the Standards of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. (ACPE) to CPE residents. The incumbent also collaborates to maintain YRMC’s accreditation with the ACPE as a training center for Clinical Pastoral Education.

Posting Department Description The Department of Spiritual Care and Care Advocacy works in harmony with the mission of YRMC to provide compassionate care for all people in the Medical Center whatever their age, faith or value system. Patients are the focus of all that we do, but their families and friends, volunteers, staff and physicians are also supported in their emotional and spiritual needs. Care Advocates endeavor to resolve all care concerns. Chaplains provide care through listening, spiritual counseling and debriefing, as needed. Chaplains respond to all referrals within 24 hours but may respond immediately under emergency circumstances. They are trained to assist with stress and the spiritual, social and emotional barriers to healing. They intervene in crises, assist patients in completing Advance Directives, offer hospitality through providing food to family and friends of patients in emergency situations and offer Tea for the Soul with hand blessings for staff. In addition, the Chaplains are at the scene of every death and serve as the primary interface with the Donor Network of Arizona for organ and tissue donation. They coordinate with the Medical Examiner’s office and all local mortuaries and also maintain the official Death Log of the institution.

Position Summary Supervises the accredited CPE program conducted at St. Joseph Hospital Pastoral Care Department. Recruits candidates and manages program publicity and communication. Minimum Qualifications: Education Baccalaureate degree; Master of Divinity from an accredited Theological Seminary or Divinity School. Experience Previous training in at least two other health care institutions. License/Certification Certified with the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education. Preferred Qualifications CPE Supervisor with at Least 3 to 5 years experience supervising Clinical Pastoral Education. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Must be an ACPE Certified Supervisor or Associate Supervisor. Must be a team player. Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be a good listener.
Must demonstrate interpersonal skills related to individual and group supervision, as well as the ability to facilitate peer relationships. Must have experiential knowledge of scripture and prayer. Must possess expertise in the development of training programs (other than CPE) for both ministry and laity.
