The educational program will focus on multi-cultural, multi-religious issues experienced in CPE Supervisory practice. There will be international, western USA and Hawai’i colleagues in Spiritual Care and Education presenting opportunities to discuss unique supervisory situations taking advantage of the contextual setting in Hawai’i.
Each participant will experience several dialogue sessions in which panels of ACPE Certified Educators along with Hawai’i religious leaders, education specialists, cultural practitioners and international guests will “talk story” about education for Asia Pacific people.
Topics will include some or all of the following:
- • Cultural clashes in CPE
- • Individual and communal learning
- • Leadership east and west
- • Managing behavioral misunderstandings
- • The power of culture and religious practice
- • Meaning of authority in the Asia Pacific
- • Behavioral assumptions
- • Encountering ACPE’s assumptive world from the outside
Additionally, there will a day long tour of Buddhist religious sites, opportunities to encounter clergy from several Buddhist sects, discussing multi-cultural education with university educators, encountering an ancient Hawaiian cultural site, meeting Polynesian educational and health practitioners, and sharing a meal (a luau) local style – on the beach, at the cultural site, music from local group, Hawaiian teachers and plenty of local food.
